Former World Ranking Leader Novak Djokovic officially withdrew from the Canadian Open due to his unvaccinated status. Tournament organizers have confirmed that Djokovic will not play in Montreal this year.
Djokovic, who won the Canadian Masters four times in 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2016, will be replaced in the main draw by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
Djokovic’s likelihood of attending the US Open is also in question due to his reluctance to get a shot. Earlier, the tournament organizers confirmed that they intended to “respect the position of the US government regarding travel to the country by unvaccinated non-US citizens”.
