Tennis Garin returns to settle in the second round of the Braunschweig Challenger

The national tennis player will now face Mikhail Kukushkin, former world number 39.

The British grass is left aside for Chilean tennis players. With the eliminations of Nicolás Jarry (20th ATP), Alejandro Tabilo (19th) and Christian Garin (106th) from Wimbledon, the national team is now focusing only on the European clay tour before the North American cement tournaments. And of these three, the northerner was the first to enter the field.

This Tuesday, Garin made his debut at the Braunschweig Challenger, a tournament that distributes 125 points and takes place in Germany. There, he had to fight for two hours and 29 minutes against Matej Dodij (317th) to ensure his presence among the top 16 of the event.

The score was 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in favor of the national, who will now have to face the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin (133rd). It will be the second time this season that the two will face each other, since they met just over a month ago in the last round of the Masters 1000 qualifiers in Rome. There, it was a defeat for the national, who was also unable to celebrate in the other duel that the two tennis players recorded, in the second round of the US Open 2020.

Garin is also experiencing a key moment in his season, because although it seems less and less likely, he continues to be on the list of substitutes for the Chilean team for the Paris Olympics, so his chances of participating in the Olympic Games are not completely discarded. It requires that some of the players who appear registered drop out and that these places cannot be occupied by representatives of other international committees.

Tabilo and Jarry, for their part, will rest this week, appearing only next Monday on the clay of the ATP 250 in Kitzbühel, where they will play singles and will also be in pairs. The latter, precisely because in Paris they will be the national representatives in the doubles category.
