Navarro and Sun leave tournament
Italian Jasmine Paolini and Croatian Donna Vekic became the first semi-finalists in the women’s bracket Wimbledon 2024.
In the quarterfinal match, Paolini, seeded 7th, beat American Emma Navarro. The Italian representative gave up only three games to her opponent — 6:2, 6:1.
Vekic won a hard-fought victory over Lulu Sun of New Zealand in the quarterfinals. Donna lost the first set, but managed to turn the tide of the match – 5:7, 6:4, 6:1.
Interestingly, Paolini and Vekic will play in the semifinals of a grass major for the first time in their careers. Donna has never played in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament before.
Two more semi-finalists will be determined on July 10 in the matches Elena Ostapenko (Latvia, 13) – Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic, 31) and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan, 4) – Elina Svitolina (Ukraine, 21).
