Svitolina: If I don’t win a Grand Slam tournament in my life, that’s okay too, I can live with it

Ukrainian woman reaches quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2024

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the upcoming quarter-final match of Wimbledon 2024 against the representative of Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina.

“Rybakina hits the ball very hard. I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone. It’s obvious that she has a powerful serve. She tries to hit hard from the baseline immediately. That’s what I’ll expect and try to make her feel uncomfortable. I don’t think she changes her style much from surface to surface.”

“Every year is a new story. This year I told my coach that every new tournament win is a bonus. I don’t want to feel pressure. I just want to go out there and enjoy every moment.”

“It’s not easy to adapt to grass because the season on this surface is very short. But I’m very happy. I had great matches against strong players, and for me it’s just good to be in the quarterfinals again.”

“I think morale is one of the main things. And I also think you have to be kind to yourself because the grass can be brutal. The ball can bounce a lot, or it can slide, and you have to be prepared for that.”

“You have to try to forget the bad moments and move on. Sometimes you can make a mistake on serve and five seconds later you’re already playing on break point. You have to be kinder to yourself.”

“I’m trying to be more relaxed now. Of course, it’s not easy, but I try to approach big matches more relaxed, as if to say: I care, but I’m not too worried. And you know, if I don’t win a Grand Slam in my life, that’s okay, I can live with it. I won’t torture myself with it for the rest of my life.”

“So it’s important for me to stay relaxed and focused, and it seems to be working. I’m going far in the majors and hopefully I can continue that.”

In the fourth round match, the Ukrainian tennis player confidently defeated Chinese Xin Yu Wang – 6:2, 6:1. In the quarterfinals, Svitolina will play the winner of Wimbledon-2022 Elena Rybakina, who received the fourth seed. If successful, Elina will repeat her best result in her career (semifinals) at a grass major.

Let us recall that in early June, Elina lost to the representative of Kazakhstan in the 1/8 finals of Roland Garros (4:6, 3:6). In July 2021, the Ukrainian defeated Rybakina in the match for bronze at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The final of the grass major will take place on July 13.
