Rybakina began her quest for a second Wimbledon title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Elena Gabriela Ruse. She dropped a set to Laura Siegemund in the next round, but came back to win in three sets. She then eliminated Caroline Wozniacki in less than an hour, 6-0, 6-1. The Kazakh was on her way to victory over Anna Kalinskaya in the fourth round when the Russian refused to continue due to injury in the second set. In the quarterfinals, she had to meet last year’s Wimbledon semifinalist Elina Svitolina.
Rybakina broke Svitolina’s serve twice in each set and won 6-3, 6-2.
Krejcikova needed three sets to beat Veronica Kudermetova in her Wimbledon opener. She then beat Katie Wolynets in two tight sets to advance directly to the fourth round as Jessica Buzas Maneiro retired in the third round.
Krejcikova beat Danielle Collins 7-5, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal showdown with Jelena Ostapenko. An early break of serve by the Czech set the stage for her first-set victory. Ostapenko took a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Krejcikova turned the tables in a flash. She used the next four games to take a 5-4 lead and serve for the match. But Ostapenko broke back herself and sent the match to a tiebreak, which Krejcikova won.
Krejcikova leads 2-0 in the head-to-head with Rybakina. She won their previous meeting at the 2022 Ostrava Open in three sets.
