The Spaniard won a convincing victory over Djokovic in three sets
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defended his title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final Wimbledon 2024.
Unlike last year’s final, where the same opponents needed five sets to settle the score, today’s match was limited to three games and lasted two and a half hours.
In the first two sets, Alcaraz’s advantage was unquestionable. In both cases, he gave up only two games to his opponent. But by the third set, Djokovic, who is 16 years older, managed to pull himself together and put up a fight.
At 4:4, the 21-year-old Spaniard was able to convert a break point, after which he led 40:0 on his serve, but missed a triple match point. At the cost of incredible efforts, Novak took the game to a tie-break, where he could do nothing against his young opponent. 7:4, and Alcaraz won Wimbledon for the second year in a row.
Let us recall that Barbora Krejcikova won the 2024 British major in women’s singles – for the Czech tennis player, this victory was the second in her career at Grand Slam tournaments after her triumph at Roland Garros 2021.
In the men’s doubles, the duo of Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten (Finland/Great Britain) triumphed, while the women’s tournament was won by Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) and Taylor Townsend (USA).
