In the decisive match, Djokovic lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 2:6, 2:6, 6:7. Novak noted that Alcaraz showed excellent tennis. The Serb congratulated Carlos on his victory.
“Carlos was hot today. It’s not the result I wanted, especially in the first two sets. My tennis level was not up to par.
“We have to give Carlos credit, he showed incredible tennis. I saved three match points, but he absolutely deserved to win. Congratulations,” Djokovic said in an on-court interview.
Despite the defeat, Djokovic, 37, will remain world number two.
Alcaraz also defeated Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final.
