Strong 7.3 magnitude earthquake reported in northern Chile, followed by several aftershocks

The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapre ) gave some recommendations on How to act in the event of seismic movement of importance .

These are the suggestions given by Senapred :

  1. Maintain calm and find a place of seismic protection .
  2. Protect yourself under a firm element . If this is not possible, stay next to the same object.
  3. Turn off the electricity and close the water and gas valves. .
  4. If you are on the street, stay away from buildings, poles and electrical wires .
  5. If you are attending a mass event, the person should stay in place and protect the head and neck with the arms . Additionally, you will also need to follow the instructions of the security officials on site.
  6. If you are driving in a tunnel, bridge or motorway, you must reduce speed and stop after leaving the area .
