Kazakh tennis player Yulia Puntseva declined to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics due to a knee injury, it is reported website Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (FTK).
Putintseva was scheduled to meet Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the first round. Earlier, another representative of Kazakhstan, Elena Rybakina, also announced her withdrawal from the tournament due to illness.
— The start of the Paris Olympics was a real test for us. First, Rybakina withdrew, and today our team lost Putintseva. We had high hopes for the performances of both athletes and are very sorry about what happened. Both Elena and Yulia are upset about the inability to play at the Olympics. Despite the difficulties, we will continue to move forward and fight for new victories, – said Dias Doskaraev, Vice President of the FTC.
The Paris Olympics will last until August 11.
