Alexander Zverev is at the center of the tennis world news at Roland Garros when he suffered a shocking injury. He tore some lateral ligaments in his right foot, but is in the final stages of his recovery and will be back on tour in a few weeks. On his return, he decided reveal that he has diabetes and also make an important decision, he will create a foundation.
“When I was little I didn’t think much about it, but then it increased. I want to show that you are very far from this disease. Currently, with a tennis career and achievements, I feel safe to go public”said the German.
The tennis player, winner of 19 ATP titles and Olympic medalist in Tokyo, reported that he was diagnosed when he was just four years old. “I want to be an example for people suffering from the disease, also a support for children who can still avoid having diabetes with an active life and proper prevention”he explained. He added: “I think I’m privileged because I want to play tennis, travel the world and I got it”.
The 25-year-old athlete not only aspires to be a good example for future generations, but his foundation also wants to collaborate in the delivery of insulin and essential drugs to prevent and control diabetes.
