Rafael Nadal on his son’s support at the Olympics: “He’s still too young to understand anything. But everything is fine when the family is around.”

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal who still has a chance to win an Olympic medal at Paris 2024 in doubles, spoke about supporting his grandson during the tournament.

Nadal, 38, and Carlos Alcaraz beat Dutchmen Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-2 on Tuesday in the second round of the Olympic doubles competition. Earlier, Nadal had ended his performance in the personal tournament by losing to Novak Djokovic.

From the stands, Nadal is supported by his wife Xisca Perello and his son Rafael Jr.

“He’s still too young to understand anything, he’s not even two years old.” He’s just having fun. Everything’s fine when you have family around.

“They are happy to travel with me, but even here I can’t spend time with them because I’m in the Olympic Village. But I’m lucky that they are willing to travel with me to other tournaments. And even there, 15 minutes with them means a lot to me. It’s very important for me now,” Nadal said at a press conference.

Alcaraz and Nadal will face fourth-seeded Americans Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
