Medvedev had a season full of ups and downs: he had 30 wins in 40 matches and reached the finals of the Australian Open, the Rosmalen grass-court championships and the Halle Open (all lost).

The 26-year-old kicked off his campaign with a win over Rinki Hijikata before facing Ricardas Berankis. Medvedev continued his impressive streak against Miomir Kecmanovic, beating the Serbian 7-6, 6-1 to reach his fourth final in 2022.
Cameron Norrie, meanwhile, also had a strong season with 35 wins in 51 matches and titles at the Delray Beach Open and Lyon Open. He also finished second at the Mexican Open and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals.
The world number 12 beat Jaime Munar, Tommy Paul and David Goffin to reach his first TBS (Wimbledon) semi-final but couldn’t beat Novak Djokovic.
Norrie performed well at the Los Cabos Open, reaching the final in Mexico. On his way to the semi-finals, he picked up convincing victories over Chun Ching Tseng and Radu Albot, then outplayed Felix-Auger Alyassime – 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Medvedev leads personal encounters with Norrie 1-0. He beat the Briton at the 2019 Shanghai Masters 6-3, 6-1.
Both players will play in their fourth main tour final this year. While Norrie has managed to win twice, Medvedev is looking to win his first title in 2022.
