Former Paraguayan tennis player Victor Pecci will be reunited with his Roland Garros final medal, which he lost 45 years ago.
In 1979, Pecci reached the final of the tournament, where he lost to Swede Bjorn Borg.
— I found my medal, lost 45 years ago after the Roland Garros final. My friend bought several Roland Garros memorabilia from a collector, including my medal. “I am so grateful that there was an award that marked an important moment in my life,” Pecci wrote on social media.
Answering subscribers’ questions, he said he did not know whether he had lost the medal himself or whether it had been stolen.
Pecci is 68 years old. He reached the 9th place in the world ranking and also won 10 titles in the singles tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals. From 2013 to 2018, Pecci was Minister of Sports of Paraguay.
