Ukrainian Renews Collaboration with Coach Andrew Bettles
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the resumption of cooperation with her long-time coach Andrew Bettles.
“Yes, we are working, I mean, we are trying to do it again. It is great to have him back in the team. It was very different. I think it has been three or four years since we worked together. But we worked for a long time, so we have great memories of our collaboration.”
“We had a great five years where we had a lot of success. So when I ended my partnership with Ramon Slater, it was a pretty easy decision for me to reach out to Andy because I know him so well and we’ve been friends through the years we weren’t working together. It’s not easy to make changes in the middle of a season, so we just talked to Andy and decided to give it another go.”
Recall that Svitolina worked with Bettles for five years, and parted ways with her mentor and sparring partner in 2021. Under Andrew’s guidance, the Ukrainian won 11 titles and reached her highest score in the WTA rankings, rising to third place among the best tennis players in the world in 2017.
Earlier, Elina stopped working with coach Ramon Slater. The Ukrainian said that she is looking for a new coach.
Under the guidance of Andrew Bettles, Svitolina prepared for the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, where she beat American Shelby Rogers in the first round.
In the second round of the tournament in Toronto, Elina Svitolina will face another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk. This meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 8.
