Former World No. 1 Serena Williams wins WTA match for first time in 14 months

American tennis player Serena Williams defeated Spain’s representative Nuria Parrisas Diaz in the WTA Tournament first round match in Toronto.

The match ended with the score of 6:3, 6:4 in favor of the former first racket in the world.

It was the 40-year-old Williams’ first WTA singles title in 14 months. Williams last won in June 2021 at Roland Garros.

In June 2022, the American participated in Wimbledon, but did not pass the first round, losing to the French Harmony Tan.

Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam winner.
