Former Chairman of the Moscow “Spartak” Andrei Chervichenko considers the criticism of Russian tennis players to be unfair for their decision to play under a neutral flag. He expressed this opinion on the antenna of the program “There is a theme!” on the channel.
Former member of the State Duma Roman Tereshkov said he didn’t understand why Daniel Medvedev who plays under a neutral flag and lives in France, is considered a Russian tennis player.
– I think it’s a big mistake to question Medvedev’s belonging to our country. Apparently, Roman just doesn’t understand the nuances of tennis and tennis life. In general, to be more precise, we should not speak of the French residence of Medvedev, but of the Monegasque residence. And Medvedev, and Zverev, and Djokovic – they all live here in Monaco, not far from me. Then Zverev should be asked if he is a German tennis player. But for some reason, for victory in the Olympics, the Germans give Zverev an Iron Cross. And at home, Medvedev, who is becoming a top player, is questioned about his attachment to Russia.
It is not necessary to be a jingoist patriot, to beat your chest to benefit the country. It seems to me that Medvedev’s victory is another punch in the nose of our enemies. I would turn this question into a different plan: what have our deputies done so that our tennis players do not take measures such as removing the Russian affiliation in social networks, so that they do not feel discomfort in their lives and movements, Chervichenko said.
