“It can be paid for in one day of the tournament” – Chesnokov advocated installing roofs over tennis courts

Andrei Chesnokov, Honored Master of Sports of Russia in tennis, believes that the investments of tournament organizers in closing stadium roofs will quickly bear fruit.

– However, building a roof costs a lot of money. But is it worth it from a financial point of view? Imagine that it rains all day. And according to the rules of the ATP and WTA, if there are no matches, the money for tickets must be returned to the spectators. Secondly, there is no broadcast around the world. And if there is no broadcast, there is no money for sponsors. Therefore, making a roof is very profitable. Yes, it is a big expense, but it can be paid off in just one day of the tournament, – Chesnokov told the Championship.

The final Grand Slam tournament of the season, the US Open, will take place from August 26 to September 8. Only two courts on which these competitions are held have retractable roofs.
