Athletistic/Tennis. Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev are the leading contenders for the 2024 US Open. Djokovic will enter the US Open as the defending champion, having won a 24th Grand Slam title in 2023.

Alcaraz will also be one of the favourites to win New York after winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon at just 21. Jannik Sinner is the world number one seed and will be looking to have a good tournament as he has never made it past the quarter-finals in New York in his entire career. Medvedev won his only TBS of his career at the US Open.

Djokovic will open his campaign against Moldovan Radu Albot in the first round of the 2024 US Open. The Serb could face Lalso Diere in the second round. Although the world number two is expected to win, Diere won the first two sets against Djokovic at the US Open last year.

Djokovic’s third-round opponent could be Canadian Open champion Alexei Popyrin. They have met twice in Grand Slams this year, with the Serb winning both matches. However, Popyrin has performed well in those matches, both in four sets. Djokovic could then face Ben Shelton in the fourth round.

Sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev and fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev are potential opponents for Djokovic in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. While the matches may look tough, the Serb leads 5-1 and 8-4 in the head-to-heads against the Russian and the German, respectively. The Serb will then potentially face Sinner or Alcaraz in the final.

Alcaraz, Sinner and Medvedev are on the same side of the grid. Only one of them will be able to reach the final.

Alcaraz will open the tournament with a match against Australian player Li Tu, followed by a potentially interesting match against former Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in the second round.

The Spaniard faces his first tough encounter in the third round, when he could face Jack Draper. Although Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 2-1, the Briton recently beat the Spaniard at Queen’s Club.

Alcaraz could face another tough opponent in Sebastian Korda in the fourth round. The American is in good form and will have the support of the home crowd. Carlos’ potential opponent in the quarter-finals could be Hubert Hurkacz or Alex de Minaur. However, both players have recently struggled. De Minaur will be playing his first tournament since injuring his thigh at Wimbledon, while Hurkacz underwent surgery after tearing his meniscus at Wimbledon and recently withdrew from the semi-final in Cincinnati against Francis Tiafoe.

Jannik Sinner will start the US Open by facing Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, then could face Alex Michelsen in the second round. The Italian will have his first tough match when he potentially faces Nicholas Harry in the third round. The Chilean won the only match between them in 2019.

The world champion could face the third American at the US Open in the fourth round against Tommy Paul. The quarter-finals are a possible clash with Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Italian lost 5-7 in the head-to-head with Medvedev and 3-6 with Tsitsipas.

However, Sinner recently beat Medvedev in the Australian Open final, and Tsitsipas has never advanced past the third round of the US Open, so a semifinal with Alcaraz and a final with Djokovic are possible.

Medvedev will start with a match against Serbian Dusan Lajovic, then he can play against Hungarian Fabian Morozan and Italian Flavio Cobolli. The fourth round is a possible confrontation with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas. In personal meetings, Stefanos is inferior to Daniil with a score of 4-9. Felix loses to Medvedev 1-7. And then a probable quarter-final with Sinner.

Sinner – Medvedev is the key match of the quarter-finals, these tennis players have the most difficult draw, since the winner of this match will probably have to play with Alcaraz and Djokovic. Novak has the most favorable net, he must take advantage of it and reach the final.
