Marta beat McCartney Kessler in two sets
Ukraine’s first racket Marta Kostyuk confidently advanced to the second round US Open 2024. Another Ukrainian, Yulia Starodubtsevadropped out of the tournament.
Marta dealt with American McCartney Kessler, who received a wild card, in two sets. In the first set, the Ukrainian made two breaks. Kostyuk began the second set with a loss of serve, but pulled herself together and won five games in a row with the score 1:3.
Starodubtseva met with the “neutral” Victoria Azarenka. The Ukrainian managed to snatch victory in the first set. However, in the subsequent sets she managed to take only two games.
Let us recall that Starodubtseva made it to the main draw through the qualification. The Ukrainian managed to qualify for all four Grand Slam tournaments this year.
Kostyuk will play Harriet Dart from Great Britain in the second round. Let us recall that Elina Svitolina and Angelina Kalinina got through the first round of singles and, by the will of the draw, will now face off. Lesia Tsurenko and Dayana Yastremska have finished their performances. Kateryna Beindl will have to play her first round match.
