Kyrgios on Sinner doping case: ‘I just want everyone to be on a level playing field’

Australian Nick Kyrgios commenting on the doping case of the Italian world number one Jannik the fisherman expressed the view that all athletes should be on an equal footing.

Last week, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported that Sinner had two positive doping tests in March. The athlete avoided disqualification because he proved that the banned substance, clostebol, had entered his system by accident. A number of players have publicly criticized the ITIA for its inconsistency in handling similar cases.

“I just want everyone to be on an equal footing. That’s why I was against coaches in the players’ dressing room. Not every athlete has a coach and not every player can afford one in qualifying. That’s what wrestling is for. That’s why players came to social media with some unease. Two days ago I was tested in my hotels. We are constantly tested,” Kyrgios was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.
