Australian tennis player Daria Saville said she was forced to play her US Open first-round match against Japan’s Yena Shibahara due to injury.
Saville was defeated in three sets with a score of 3:6, 6:4, 6:7 (6:10).
– I can handle it. At first the pain was a seven out of ten, but it gets worse when you lose.
Where else can I make money? I lose it every week if I take a coach to a tournament.
It’s happened to me before when I was playing through injury and it’s just a terrible cycle. Sometimes I think, ‘Do I really want to do this?’ – Sky News quotes the athlete as saying.
Saville will receive approximately $100,000 in prize money for his participation in the US Open.
