Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev shared his emotions after reaching the second round of the US Open, and also spoke about the scandal with the world’s number one, Jannik Sinner.
In the first round, Medvedev (5th seed) defeated Serbian Dusan Lajovic with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3, 6:1.
— Dusan played well. I am happy that I managed to maintain my level. The opponent lost a little in the third and fourth sets. I managed to play better and better from that moment on.
— There has been a lot of discussion about the Jannik Sinner case. What is your view on this?
— I liked what Taylor Fritz said: “Only he knows exactly what happened. None of us can know the exact truth. He, his team, and perhaps an independent tribunal know the truth.”
“I think the approach should be the same for every player. Every tennis player can protect himself. The rules are just a little bit vague. As I said, I just hope that every player will be treated the same way,” Medvedev said at a news conference.
Sinner is hosting the first tournament since the results of the investigation into two positive doping tests for clostebol were made public. The 23-year-old tennis player avoided disqualification by successfully proving that the banned substance had entered his system unintentionally.
