American tennis player Fritz harshly criticized Wimbledon for not allowing Russians

American taylor Fritz in an interview with The Guardian, he spoke about his attitude to the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in Wimbledon.

Previously, the British tournament organizers did not allow Russians and Belarusians to compete even in a neutral status. The decision was frowned upon by the ATP and WTA, who ultimately stripped Wimbledon of ranking points.

– I think the decision to withdraw points at Wimbledon was right. It seems to me that it was unfair for the players (from Russia and Belarus) that they were not allowed to participate even without a flag. The situation in Ukraine has nothing to do with them. They shouldn’t have been kicked out of the tournament.

Getting points for playing at Wimbledon wouldn’t be fair to them, although I myself would have reached the top 10 of the ATP rankings if that were the case. For me personally, it would be more profitable if the tournament kept its status. But if some players aren’t allowed to play, there shouldn’t be any points for that tournament, Fritz said.

Novak Djokovic became the winner of the tournament in Great Britain, which took place in June-July. Fritz reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
