Athletistic/Tennis. Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya shared her opinion on why she refuses the traditional handshake with Russian athletes after matches. Recall that Yastremskaya lost in the first round of the current US Open to German tennis player Julia Niemeyer.

When asked by journalists what she thinks about the situation where Ukrainian athletes do not shake hands with Russian competitors and face a negative reaction, Yastremskaya replied:

“My position is not to shake hands with Russian players, and I firmly adhere to this position when I have the opportunity, I express my support for Ukraine, and I absolutely do not care what they write about me, what they think about me and what they say about me in general, I do not care.

When asked how she deals with negativity on social media, Yastremskaya stressed: “I don’t care at all, I follow my principles. If someone doesn’t like it, don’t look at it. If you like it, look at it. It’s very simple. Therefore, if I want, I shake hands, if I want, I don’t shake hands,” she said.
