Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka refused to continue the fight in the second set of the first round of the Toronto tournament against the Estonian Kayi Kanepi .
The match was interrupted when the score was 7:6 (7:4), 3:0 in favor of Kanepi, after the match the Japanese complained of back pain.
– I had back problems from the start of the match, and despite my efforts to deal with the situation, I just couldn’t manage it. I would like to pay tribute to Kaya for a good game and wish her the best,” Osaka, 24, was quoted by AFP as saying.
Kanepi’s next opponent in Toronto will be Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza.
Four-time Grand Slam winner Osaka has played six games since April, winning two.
The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
