Former Romanian world number one Simona Halep commenting on the doping case of the Italian world number one Jannik the fisherman noted that when considering such cases, all athletes should be treated equally.
Last week, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported that Sinner had two positive doping tests in March. The athlete avoided disqualification because he proved that the banned substance, clostebol, had entered his system by accident. A number of players have publicly criticized the ITIA for its inconsistency in handling similar cases.

Last September, the ITIA announced that Halep would be banned for four years. The Romanian was charged with two separate charges. The first related to a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.
In March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) partially upheld Halep’s appeal and reduced her suspension for anti-doping rule violations from four years to nine months.
