Four-time Olympic champion is ready to cover her racket
Former world number one Serena Williams hinted at the end of her career as a professional tennis player.
“There comes a point in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction. This time is always difficult when you love something so much. I have to focus on being a mom, on my spiritual goals, and finally discovering a different yet exciting Serena,” the athlete wrote on Instagram.
Serena Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion. The 40-year-old American is also a four-time Olympic champion. Serena has won seven Wimbledon titles in her career.
The tennis player, along with Stefan Graf, holds the first place in the number of consecutive weeks spent in the rank of the first racket of the WTA rating – 186 weeks.
Williams plans to retire after the US Open. The US Open will take place from August 29 to September 11.
