Athletistic/Tennis. Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev will meet world number one Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Sinner opened his tournament in New York with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 victory over American Mackenzie McDonald. In the second round, against fellow American Alex Michelsen, Sinner was much more convincing, winning 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. In the third round against Christopher O’Connell, Sinner won easily 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. The Italian then faced 14th seed Tommy Paul in the round of 16. The American started the match stronger, thanks to an excellent baseline game, he achieved a double break. However, this did not bother Sinner in any way and he gradually regained the score, leveling the score (4-4). The set then went to a tiebreaker, where Paul had a chance, but Sinner’s experience won out.

The tennis players served brilliantly in the second set and again went to the tiebreaker, this time without a single break. In the tiebreaker, Sinner again narrowly won, after playing better in the decisive moments. Paul tried to maintain a high level of play in the third set, but quickly fizzled out and Sinner took full advantage. With two breaks, Sinner secured the victory with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1.

Meanwhile, Medvedev, last year’s runner-up, opened the US Open with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Serbian veteran Dusan Lajovic. He then beat Fabian Morozan 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the second round and beat Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in the third.

Medvedev faced Nuno Borges in the fourth round and beat him 6-0 in the first set. The second match was just as one-sided, Borges won only one game and lost 1-6. Only in the third set did the Portuguese impose the fight, but in the end Medvedev still confidently won 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 51 minutes.

Daniil Medvedev leads the match against Jannik Sinner with a score of 7-5. He won their previous epic five-set match in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. However, Sinner has won two other meetings this year. The Russian leads 6-5 on hard court, while he is tied 1-1 in Grand Slam tournaments.

Predictions for the match Daniil Medvedev – Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner has been a formidable force on American hard courts this season and has generally enjoyed great success throughout the year. Four of his five titles this season have come on hard courts, and he has an impressive 32-2 record on the surface so far. His only losses have been to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells and Andrey Rublev in Montreal.

Medvedev has historically played his best matches on hard courts, but he hasn’t had as much success on that surface this year, with a modest 22-6 record so far. This year, he has yet to win a single title and has lost in the finals in Melbourne and Indian Wells. Despite a disappointing season due to his high standards, Medvedev has returned to impressive form at the US Open. Medvedev has returned to his menacing serve and looks to be a real force to be reckoned with.

They have already met twice at Grand Slam tournaments this year: Sinner won the Australian Open final and Medvedev won the quarter-final at Wimbledon. The fast and hard courts of the US Open suit both players. This match is a hidden final, given the elimination of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. The winner of this match will be the main contender for the title. And this will be an opportunity for Medvedev to win the second World Cup of his career at a time when Djokovic is still in the saddle, but is already losing ground and the new guard is beginning to dominate. Thanks to the “Big Three”, Medvedev has won only one Grand Slam tournament, but now he is being replaced by a new young generation in the person of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who in the future will make fewer and fewer mistakes, and it will be increasingly difficult for Medvdev, who is already quite old, to win. We have to take advantage of the opportunities in this tournament.

Prognosis: Medvedev wins in four sets.
