Medvedev, seeded fifth in the tournament, lost to world number one Sinner of Italy with a score of 2:6, 6:1, 1:6, 4:6. The match lasted 2 hours 39 minutes.
“It was an atypical match for head-to-head matches between Medvedev and Sinner. The score shows that both tennis players made a lot of mistakes and there were moments when their game was not going well. Daniil himself noted this in a post-match interview. In reality, neither player performed exceptionally well. Yannick made fewer mistakes and was ultimately more successful. Such results happen, but the course of the match was really unusual,” Selivanenko noted.
“As for Medvedev’s performance in the tournament, before that he showed good results and played with confidence. The last match was not exceptional, but I don’t see the point in analyzing the average quality of his performances in the tournament,” he added.
Sinner will face Britain’s Jack Draper in the US Open semi-finals.
