Athletistic/Tennis. World number one Jannik Sinner will face Taylor Fritz in the 2024 US Open final.

Sinner began his quest for the title in New York with a four-set win over Mackenzie MacDonald. He then beat Alex Michelsen and Christopher O’Connell in three sets over the next two rounds. Yannick went straight to Tommy Paul in the fourth round and then beat Daniil Medvedev in four sets in the quarterfinals.

Sinner faced 25th seed Jack Draper in the semifinals. The first two sets were an even fight, but the Italian managed to win both 7-5 and 7-6, but in the third game, Draper collapsed and gave up without a fight – 6-2.

Fritz eliminated Camilo Hugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini and Francisco Comesana in three sets to advance to the fourth round. He beat Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev in four sets to set up a semifinal showdown with compatriot Francis Tiafoe.

Fritz squandered a 3-0 lead in the first set and lost it 4-6. Taylor equalized the score by winning the second set, then the tennis players exchanged winning games with the same score 6-4. Finally, the deciding fifth set proved too one-sided, Fritz gave his opponent only one game and won 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In the previous two meetings, Sinner and Fritz traded victories. The last match was Sinner’s, he won the Indian Wells Masters last year in three sets.

Predictions for the match Jannik Sinner – Taylor Fritz

Sinner reached his second TBS final this season after his Australian Open triumph. He won the Cincinnati Open before the US Open and extended his winning streak to 11 matches after beating Draper. The Italian won 77 percent of first-serve points in the semifinals, 56 percent of return points and hit 43 winners against 34 unforced errors.

Fritz reached his first Grand Slam final and became the first American to reach a US Open final since Andy Roddick in 2006. He won 75 percent of his first-serve points against Tiafoe, 36 percent of his return points and had 42 winners to 35 unforced errors. Although the two tennis players had similar statistics in their semifinal victories, Sinner outplayed Fritz in points won on the reception. This could very well prove to be the deciding factor in the final as both players serve excellently.

Fritz ranks fourth in pitching performance over the past 52 weeks, followed by Sinner in fifth. However, Yannick ranks seventh in receiving and Taylor is 24th. Sinner is 54-5 this season and 74-7 since the conclusion of last year’s U.S. Open. Fritz, meanwhile, is 44-16 this year.

Sinner is clearly the favourite, even if the American could create a surprise.

Forecast: Jannik Sinner wins in four sets.
