Captain of the Spanish national tennis team David Ferrer said the 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal aims to participate in the Laver Cup.
Nadal’s last tournament so far is the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. There, the 38-year-old Spaniard reached the quarter-finals in doubles and the second round in singles.
“He made his goal clear on the calendar after the Olympics: to play in the Laver Cup and the exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia. He wanted to rest, to disconnect. That was what he needed, but we’ll see. Once it’s over, when he has to decide what he wants to do next, he’ll let me know. I want him to be healthy. The main thing is that he’s happy and satisfied. The doors are always open to him, and he knows it,” Cadena Ser quoted Ferrer as saying.
The Laver Cup is an exhibition team tournament and will be held in 2024 from September 20 to 22 in Berlin. Nadal will play as part of Team Europe alongside his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, Russian Daniil Medvedev, Norwegian Kasper Ruud, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and German Alexander Zverev.
