Chinese tennis player Zhang Shuai snapped a 24-game losing streak with a first-round victory at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.

Chinese woman beat American representative McCartney Kessler with a score of 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (7:1). The meeting lasted more than two hours.

Previously, Zhang Shuai, 35, had set an anti-record for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments, losing 24 matches in a row. She last won in January 2023.

In the second round of the tournament in Beijing, Zhang Shuai will face American Emma Navarro (sixth seed).
