Multiple Serbian Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will not perform at the Masters series tournament in Cincinnati, however, the tennis player has a chance to participate in the US Open, reports Punto de Break.
On Thursday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) relaxed its COVID-19 prevention guidelines. According to the decision, vaccinated and unvaccinated people will have the same recommendations in the country. Thus, Djokovic had the opportunity to play the last Grand Slam of the season.
Under measures approved by the CDC last June, a foreigner had to have proof of a COVID-19 vaccination to enter the United States. If this rule is lifted, the 35-year-old Serb will be able to enter the country freely.
Djokovic has previously said he won’t get vaccinated to compete in tournaments.
The US Open is scheduled to take place in New York from August 29 to September 11.
