Starodubtseva: I really hope that every victory we bring to Ukraine on the court helps and supports the spirit of all Ukrainians

Yulia beat a “neutral” tennis player and made it to the quarter finals of the WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career

Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva commented on her victory over “neutral” tennis player Anna Kalinskaya in the fourth round of the tournament WTA 1000 V Beijing.

“I went into the match with the mindset of playing my game, not letting her play her game. Be more aggressive, move her court more. But, to be honest, it seemed to me that it was not she, not me, who did not play well, in the first five games. I couldn’t find my game and I don’t think she played very well either.”

“Am I satisfied with my tennis, which I am showing now? I think I won’t blame myself for now, I really like playing tennis now and I really like the way I play.”

“I was a little injured in the last two games, in the previous match against Avanesyan, but I seem to have it under control at the moment.”

“I would like to congratulate you on the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine! Everyone who defends our country is the most brave and noble people. I would just like to wish you to be careful and take care of each other. I, like all Ukrainian players, really hope that each of our victories on the court, which we bring to Ukraine, helps and supports the spirit of all Ukrainians, and Ukrainian defenders and defenders. You are the best! Thank you”.

Starodubtseva beat Kalinskaya in two sets – 7:5, 6:0. In the quarter finals, the Ukrainian will play against the sixth racket of the world, Coco Gauff from the USA. Thanks to her successful performances, Yulia has already secured her debut in the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
