President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev spoke about the admission of Russian tennis players to participate in the US Open.
Earlier, the media wrote that the organizers of the US Open plan to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the tournament in 2022, repeating the experience of Wimbledon.
– The admission of our Belarusian tennis players is the merit of the professional tennis federations (ATP and WTA – editor’s note), and not of the Americans. All are eligible to compete according to the ATP and WTA rankings without nationality. We have to thank the tennis community for the fact that they did not give in and allowed our guys, – said Tarpishchev.
The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
