Djokovic addressed Nadal: “Our rivalry had the biggest impact on me as a player. Your legacy will live on forever.”

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic made a statement after Spaniard Rafael Nadal announced his retirement.

On Thursday, Nadal, 38, announced his retirement. Nadal’s last tournament will be the Davis Cup Final Eight, which will take place in Malaga from November 19 to 24.

Djokovic and Nadal played 60 matches, the score was 31-29 in favor of the Serb.

– Rafa, a single message is not enough to express my respect for you and for what you have done for our sport. You have inspired millions of children to start playing tennis, and that is probably the greatest achievement anyone could wish for. Your tenacity, dedication and fighting spirit will be studied for decades. Your legacy will live forever. Only you know what you had to overcome to become an icon of tennis and sport in general.

Thank you for pushing me to my limits so many times in our rivalry, which had the biggest impact on me as a player. Your passion for representing Spain in tournaments has always been incredible. I wish you the best farewell to Malaga with the Spanish Davis Cup team. “I will personally come there to pay tribute to your brilliant career,” Djokovic wrote on the social network.

Nadal is a 22-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic champion. He is one of only four tennis players in history to have won every Grand Slam tournament at least twice.
