Olkhovsky: ‘It’s sad when people like Nadal leave the sport’

The champion of the Australian Open-1994 and Roland Garros-1993 in mixed doubles Andrei Olkhovsky regretted that the 22-time champion of Grand Slam tournaments Rafael Nadal decided to end his career.

Nadal announced his retirement on Thursday. The 38-year-old Spaniard’s final tournament will be the Davis Cup Final Eight, which will be held in Malaga from November 19-24.

— Nadal is a great player. He has won Roland Garros 14 times. A unique tennis player and an interesting and unique personality. When such people leave the sport, it’s a bit sad. But I think many were ready for that – it wasn’t a surprise. Because it is difficult to play at the highest level if you are not physically ready,” Olkhovsky was quoted as saying by “Championship”.

Nadal is a 22-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic champion.
