Russian tennis player Irina Khromacheva said that she began performing in a duet with the representative of Kazakhstan Anna Danilina on the advice of Andrei’s mother. Rubleva coach Marina Maryenko.
Sunday Khromacheva and Danilina won the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, China, in doubles.
The athletes began playing together full-time in the summer of 2024 and have won four titles at Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments. The two girls were born in Moscow and have known each other since they were young. Khromacheva’s first coach was Maryenko, who also advises Danilina from time to time.
— She (Marieenko) told us during the tournament in Australia that we had to team up as a duo. Anna played with different partners and I also had agreements. But then we played at the WTA 125 tournament in Italy. From that point on, we said, “Okay, maybe we’ll try and play for the rest of the year and see what happens.” » That’s it. Now I simply have no more words.
As for access to the final phase, we haven’t thought about it because for that we have to win every week. Our goal was just to stay in the game day after day. The Ningbo tournament will be our last tournament (among those planned). And then we’ll see if we’re the first replacements (during the final WTA tournament). Certainly, if we are the first submarines, we will go there. At first we just want to enjoy the moment. We will continue playing next year, and then we will see,” Khromacheva told the official WTA website.
The WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, China will be held from October 14 to 20. Khromacheva and Danilina will face Aldila Sutyadi (Indonesia) and Xu Yifan (China) in the first round.
