Nadal: “We have to let Sinner and Alcaraz create their own rivalry. They don’t need comparisons to the Big Three

Multiple Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal think he’s Italian Jannik sinner and the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz must create their own rivalry, now is not the time to compare their achievements with those of the Big Three.

The big three are Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Sinner and Alcaraz are ranked first and second in the world rankings. The 21-year-old Spaniard has four victories in Grand Slam tournaments, while Sinner, 23, has two.

— Young tennis players are great guys. They are already achieving astonishing results, winning Grand Slam and Masters tournaments. Sinner and Alcaraz are doing something special. I wish them all the best as they continue to grow. They are already big stars. I’m sure if they can avoid injuries they will build an incredible career.

– Do you see a rivalry between Yannick and Carlos?

– Yes. This year, each of them has two victories in Grand Slam tournaments, they are 1st and 2nd in the world. They create their own story. I think this is not the time to compare eras. Yes, Roger and I are gone, but Novak is still here. Now a new generation is coming. We must allow them to create their own rivalry. They don’t need comparisons with us,” Nadal quotes in The Tennis Letter.
