Former American world number one Serena Williams reported that she had surgery to remove a cyst in her shoulder joint.
“In May I discovered a lump on my neck. I immediately went to the doctor, had an MRI and was told I had a cyst on my shoulder. Have you ever heard of this? They said I didn’t have to delete it if I didn’t want to. So I didn’t delete it, but it continued to grow. I decided to do additional tests and three analyzes and a biopsy later, all the results remained negative, but the doctors advised me to remove it as soon as possible because it was the size of a small grapefruit and could flee. And so I deleted it. “I am so grateful and happy that everything went well and most importantly, I am healthy,” Williams wrote on her social media page.
Williams retired in 2022. She is a four-time Olympic champion and winner of 73 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments. The American ranks second in the number of Grand Slam tournament victories in women’s singles (23), behind Margaret Court (24).
