Russian world number seven Andrei Rublev said he was about to have surgery to amputate his testicles.
– I don’t know how to talk about this – funny or smart. I almost lost a testicle. Yes, I was very lucky because the doctors told me I had five or six hours. If blood circulation problems began, they would be amputated.
For some reason I agreed to go to the hospital and get checked out because I felt strange. Doctors examined him and sent him urgently for surgery. So 3-4 hours passed between the first sensations and the operation. About three to four hours. In the end everything was fine, but before the anesthesia I signed papers allowing me to amputate my testicle,” Rublev said at a press conference.
On Thursday, Rublev reached the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm, Sweden. Rublev will compete with Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
