Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva couldn’t hold back her tears during the awards ceremony following the final match of the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, China.
On Sunday, the 17-year-old Russian lost to her compatriot Daria Kasatkina with a score of 0:6, 6:4, 4:6. As the match progressed, Andreeva reacted emotionally to the unsuccessful plays and burst into tears after the decisive match. At the award ceremony, Mirra also could not hold back tears when she congratulated her rival on her victory, after which Kasatkina went on stage to console Andreeva.
— I want to congratulate Daria, you really deserved this victory (cries). I also want to congratulate your team, who did a good job this week, as they have done throughout the season. You finally managed to win the title at the end of that season. I’m not saying this because I want to offend you, but I sincerely congratulate you, you really deserve it. I’m trying really hard not to cry right now because I know I’m going to get ugly pictures. Thank you all for your support, it means a lot to me. I hope I can do better next time,” Andreeva said on the court.
Andreeva is ranked 19th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
