Former world number three Dominic Thiem ended his professional career.

The Austrian played his last match at his home WTA 500 tournament in Vienna. In the first round, Dominic lost to the Italian Luciano Darderi. After the fight, Tim’s farewell ceremony to the sport took place on the court.

In the first set, the Austrian failed to maintain a 4:2 advantage and lost in the tiebreaker. In the second game, the Italian made two breaks and brought the match to victory.

Tim, 31, has won 17 singles titles in his career, including the 2020 US Open. Dominic played in the finals of Grand Slam tournaments three more times.

The Austrian suffered a wrist injury in 2021 which forced him to miss nine months. After returning, Dominic was unable to reach the previous level. In May 2024, Tim announced that this season would be his last.
