Over the next two months, two new competitions will take place in San Carlos de Apoquindo, while for next year the organization has submitted a request to organize six additional dates.
After several years, Chile is once again hosting ITF tournaments, formerly known as Futures and joining the many challengers of the Dove Men+Care circuit and the ATP 250 in Santiago. Indeed, in 2012, the country hosted 18 events (an ATP, a Challenger and 16 Futures), and In 2023, this figure was half (one ATP, six challengers and two WTA).
Faced with this dramatic decline, Catalina Fillol, director of the U15 tournaments and the ATP 250 Chile Open, and Sergio Elías, president of the Chilean Tennis Federation, met in San Carlos de Apoquindo to sign a mutual cooperation agreement, in which it was announced the return of ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments. These will have two new dates in the country: November 23 and December 2 on the campus of the Universidad Católica.
Great representatives of our current tennis have participated in the ITF Championships, such as Nicolás Jarry, Alejandro Tabilo, Christian Garin and Tomás Barrios, who took the opportunity to consolidate their careers.
Six new dates
“As an organization, we know the importance of these types of events in the development of the country’s young tennis players. The experience that they can gain from their beginnings to professional competitions is essential, so it is very positive to promote the realization of championships in collaboration with the Federation. In addition, they are offered the opportunity to add their first ATP points without having to leave the country. “We hope that the number of championships will continue to increase, which is why we have already made a formal request to the federation to organize six additional dates in 2025,” he said. Catalina Fillol,
For his part, Elijah said that the championships “are the step that every young person must take in their career. “These tournaments provide the foundation for developing our country’s next great tennis players.”
SACS, in addition to organizing the ATP 250 and these two M15 tournaments, strives to carry out six additional M15 tournaments in 2025. Likewise, the Movistar Chile Open already has a date, since it will take place between February 22 and next March 2. year.
