Belarusian Arina Sabalenko will end the year in first place in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
On Tuesday, Polish tennis player Iga Szwiatek lost to American Corrie Gauff (3:6, 4:6) in the match of the group stage of the WTA final tournament, which takes place in Riyadh. So, even if Schwiatek wins the tournament, he will not be able to score the required number of points to return to first place in the rankings.
Sabalenka, 26, topped the rankings on October 21; she will finish the season as the world’s leading racket for the first time.
This season, the Belarusian has won two Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open and the US Open. During the 2024 Final Tournament, Sabalenka guaranteed access to the semi-finals.
