American tennis player Taylor Fritz said he was amused by the Russian’s behavior Daniel Medvedev during their match at the ATP Finals in Turin.
On Sunday, Fritz defeated Medvedev in the first match of the group stage with a score of 6:4, 6:3. In the second set, Medvedev threw his racket, during one of the techniques he took it from the back and tried to receive the serve with the handle.
— What did you think when you saw Daniil with an inverted racket in his hands during your serve?
– I just laughed. I think he’s really funny. Even when he’s not playing with me, he always makes me laugh. I laughed more between games when he threw the racket.
It’s just his nature. He returned the racket, but it was 40:0 on my serve. So it doesn’t matter. He still accepted the service.
I had to tell myself that I had to concentrate. Sometimes you lose focus when your opponents pretend they’re barely trying. And then they start pushing again and catch you off guard. This happens more often in professional tennis than you might think. They play without enthusiasm, you try to win quickly and they catch you,” Fritz said in a press conference after the match.
Medvedev’s next opponent at the tournament will be Australian Alex De Minaur, the meeting will take place on Tuesday.
