Russian tennis player Nadezhda Petrova commented on the defeat of the Russian Daniel Medvedev during the opening match of the ATP tournament and explained why the athlete lost to his American opponent.
Medvedev lost to American Taylor Fritz at the start of the 2024 ATP Finals tournament in two sets – 4:6, 3:6.
Apparently, Danya was really tired, especially since he himself spoke about it in an interview with journalists after the match. Danya said he was now at a point where he was forcing himself to work on the field and it wasn’t bringing him any pleasure. It is difficult to show such powerful and dominant tennis throughout a long season. For me, his defeat against the American is a minor sensation. But we have to give credit to Taylor, he played a great match. It was clear that he was charged and more motivated than Danya for this victory. Medvedev perhaps hoped to play more on his experience, on his talent, but unfortunately it was not enough, Petrova told RT.
Medvedev will play his next match of the tournament on November 12 against Australian Alex de Minaur, and on November 13 he will meet Italian Jannik Sinner.
