Former world number one and Olympic champion Eugene Kafelnikov suggested that the Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev has serious motivation problems and is trying to resolve them.
On Sunday, Medvedev lost to American Taylor Fritz at the start of the 2024 ATP Finals tournament – 4:6, 3:6.
— Maybe Medvedev should take a break and restart?
— This happens individually for everyone. This is probably one of the options. There are probably motivation issues. It all depends on Daniel himself.
— Isn’t it alarming that Russia’s best tennis player finds himself in such a psychological hole?
— This worries Daniel himself. He himself sees that the problem is serious and tries to get out of it. This is a normal situation that needs to be dealt with,” Kafelnikov told the Championship.
In the second match of the group stage, Medvedev will meet Australian Alex De Minaur on November 12.
