Ruud said he knew about Alcaraz’s cold and thanks to that he beat the Spaniard in the ATP Finals tournament.

Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud said he took advantage of the Spaniard’s cold Carlos Alcaraz to beat him in the first match of the group stage of the ATP Finals tournament.

Ruud beat Alcaraz 6-1, 7-5 on Monday. Previously, the Norwegian lost all four meetings against the Spaniard at tournaments under the auspices of the ATP.

“I knew he had a little cold.” I’ve seen him sniffing and walking around with a towel – that’s a sign that physically he won’t be 100 percent ready. Of course it’s sad and it’s not good for him, but at the same time it’s part of the game.

I understood that from the beginning and tried to force him to play long rallies, to do his best. It’s not easy: when you know someone isn’t 100% ready, you feel stress yourself. Fortunately, I got off to a good start. “I made an early break and kept it, and in the second set I managed to turn the situation around, showing good tennis at the end,” Ruud told the official website of the ATP.

Ruud and Alcaraz will compete in the same group in the final tournament with Russian Andrei Rublev and German representative Alexander Zverev.
