Cincinnati tournament organizers explain why they asked to remove the flag of Ukraine during the match between two Russians

The size of the Ukrainian flag was the reason that the organizers of the tennis tournament in Cincinnati (USA) asked the fan to remove it during the qualifying match between the Russians Anna Kalinskaya and Anastasia Potapova .

The meeting between Kalinskaya and Potapova took place on Sunday. During the match, one of the tennis players complained to Judge Lara Morgan about a fan wrapped in the Ukrainian flag. Morgan came down from the tower to talk to a fan. Later, the head of the security department explained to the fan that the size of the flag exceeded the established sizes. The girl finally left the podium.

– Per tournament policy, flags or banners larger than 18×18 inches (46×46 cm) are not permitted. Consequently, the fan was asked to remove the flag, after which she was allowed to remain in the stands, organizers said in a statement quoted by Reuters.

The meeting ended in victory for Kalinskaya with the score 7:5, 6:1, however, both tennis players qualified for the main draw of the tournament. Kalinskaya’s opponent in the first round will be Italian Martina Trevisan, Potapova – Romanian Simona Halep.
